Utah Highway Patrol Press Release

On Sunday at approximately 1:50 p.m., there were several reports of a mudslide that was covering the east and westbound lanes of State Road 6 at mile marker 193 in Spanish Fork Canyon.

Due to heavy rain, a mudslide occurred across eastbound and westbound lanes. The railroad was also affected.

UDOT and Union Pacific were on-scene and working to clear the road. Traffic is currently moving alternately one way in the eastbound lanes. We anticipate both lanes being clear in approximately sixty minutes. The railroad is closed and currently there is no estimate for the reopening of the railroad.

More thunderstorms swept through area Sunday evening, extending delays in the canyon. Traffic is slowed dramatically when entering Spanish Fork Canyon via Utah County, sometimes by as much as three hours.
