After a highly successful American Legion baseball season, Helper finished summer action at the Western Regional Tournament in Arizona. Helper defeated first round opponent, Tuscon but lost in the second round to Las Vegas. The third and final game for Helper was against League City, TX who defeated the Utah team, 6-1 on Aug. 10. The loss ended Helper’s baseball season. “We gave it a good run, and I’m so proud of our team,” explained coach, Jeff Cisneros. “What a great group of young men.”

During their final tournament game, Helper struggled at bat. Dakota Cisneros had the only RBI of the game which sent Cole Fossat across home plate for the teams one and only run. Derek Young pitched seven innings and Jordan Mellen one.

Although Helper did not capture the region title, the team made quite an impression at the tournament. “The regional director could not say enough good things about our program and our parents,” coach Cisneros stated. “We had great support and with one or two more runs we would still be playing.”

To get an idea of how talented Helper is, Cisneros explained how close the team came to defeating tournament powerhouses. “The Arizona team we beat and the Nevada team we lost to, are still playing in the final three games,” he explained. “That’s how close we were.”

Coach Cisneros completed his 20 year reign in Helper with a season to remember. Cisneros enters retirement as coach to the Utah American Legion Baseball State Champions.
