The first Helper City Council meeting for the month of August took place Thursday evening. With the annual Helper Arts Festival quickly approaching, it was prudent that festival director Kate Kilpatrick present the council members with an update on the happenings.

The first event in conjunction with the Arts Festival is the dance concert that will take place at the Rio Theater on Helper’s Main Street on Friday, August 5 and Saturday, August 6. Kilpatrick expressed her concern with the concert due to the fact that during early purchasing at the balance rock, only 17 tickets were sold. In order to make ends meet on this event, around 300 tickets need to be sold over the two-day period. This is because dancers from the area as well as some from Salt Lake City are coming for the event and are being paid.

Tickets for this event are available at the door for $15. Concessions will also be available during the dance concert, which starts at 7:30 p.m.

The next event for the Arts Festival is the gallery stroll. Desserts will be featured throughout the galleries, which was thought of in hopes of pulling more people to the stroll. The opening of the new amenities at the museum will also take place on that Thursday, August 18. This will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Culture Connection, the free concert generally featured at the Price City Peace Gardens on Thursday evenings, has once more teamed up with the festival. Music will be featured on Main Street in Helper.

Helper City’s Main Street will be closed for the Arts Festival, beginning at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 18. It will open once more on Sunday, August 21 at 3 p.m.

Kilpatrick also expressed her delight over the kids events that will be featured this year. Kids will be able to decorate fans and t-shirts, play with available percussion instruments available and, as always, the children’s art set up.
