Residents, gallery owners and business owners of Helper have gathered together to create the First Friday event. This event will take place the first Friday of each month on the city’s Main Street. The inaugural event took place on Friday despite  rainy conditions.

The theme for August was “embrace your inner child.” Participants of the festivities were encouraged to participate in chalk drawings and other activities, including an treasure hunt for all ages, written word readings and the like. Entertainment also came in the form of gallery strolls, a fire breather and a movie that was shown at the Rio Theater.

The First Friday fun for September will include a dog parade and costume contest.
