The February Helper City Council meeting was kicked off by honoring two residents of Helper City that have contributed countless hours of their time to bettering the city’s offerings.

Ron Jewkes and Aldene Thomas were highlighted at the meeting for their years of service volunteering at the Western Mining Museum on Helper’s Main Street. Mayor Lenise Peterman stated that she was fortunate enough to work with the duo at the museum and commended them for being “amazing people and community assets.”

Jewkes and Thomas have both volunteered at the museum for over 20 years. With this in mind, Mayor Peterman saw the necessity to take a moment and recognize them.

“They are community treasures,” Mayor Peterman stated.

Jewkes and Thomas also took a brief moment to speak, stating that they have loved all of the time spent volunteering. Jewkes also informed all that he received a letter from the state thanking him for all of his time spent volunteering.

“It’s something I look forward to all the time,” Thomas said.

The duo was awarded with plaques from the city.
