Helper Mayor Dean Armstrong was arrested and booked into the Carbon County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol on Nov. 16, but he has no plans to resign.

On the advice of his attorney, Armstrong chose not to comment on the case directly, but in an interview with etv10news.com, the Mayor said he “intends to remain in office.”

Armstrong revealed that he has been in contact with the City Council and other members of City government, and with their support, he plans on “continuing the positive steps we have been taking to improve our city.”

According to Utah Highway Patrol Lieutenant David Bennion, last week’s traffic stop was made when a UHP Trooper witnessed Armstrong making a “California stop” at 100 West Main in Price at approximately 1 p.m. in the afternoon.

“Mr. Armstrong was ultimately taken out of the car to perform field sobriety tests,” Bennion reported. “As a result of those tests, he was arrested for driving under the influence and having an open container in the vehicle.”

Bennion also confirmed that a Breathalyzer test revealed Armstrong was “over the legal limit.”
