High School Basketball Wrap-up, Playoff Picture

With the regular season winding down and the playoffs just around the corner, many local teams have punched their tickets into the playoffs starting this week.

Carbon Girls:

The Lady Dinos clinched 3A’s Region 12 Thursday with a convincing win over second-place Delta, 54-36. Carbon will host Ogden in the first round of the 3A playoffs, Friday at 7 p.m.В The game can be watched live on ETV Channel 10.В Carbon ended the regular season with an overall record of 16-4, and 9-1 in region play. Should the Dinos win, they would play Thursday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m. at Dixie State College against the winner of Judge Memorial and Cedar.

Carbon Boys:

Winning three out their final four games on the season has the Dinos in third place in Region 12. Clay Finkbiner nailed six three’s in Carbon’s 64-60 win against Delta Friday night. With the win, the Dinos will travel to Odgen to take on Ben Lomond Saturday at 7 p.m. Carbon bested Ben Lomond 46-44 in double overtime on December 10 in Odgen. With a win, the Dinos would play the Desert Hills Juan Diego winner Thursday, February 23, at 9:30 a.m. at Dixie State College.

Emery Girls

The Lady Spartans stumbled out of the gate this season losing nine of their first 10 games, but have turned it on in the second half winning five of their last eight overall. With a win against San Juan Friday, the Lady Spartans broke a two-way tie with the Broncos in the Region 15 standings to take sole possession of second place behind Richfield. Emery will be the home team in a neutral site first-round game against Enterprise on Friday at 8 p.m. at Snow College. Emery beat Enterprise 47-37 on November 22. With a win, Emery would play the winner of South Summit and Gunnison February 23 at the Sevier Valley Center.

Emery Boys

It went down to a coin toss for Emery to determine its seeding in the 2012 2A playoffs. Emery won the coin toss with Richfield and won the second seed in Region 15. Both the Spartans and the Wildcats lost over the weekend to end the season in a tie at 4-4. Emery will play Enterprise Saturday at 8 p.m. at Snow College. With a win, the Spartans would play the winner out of South Summit and North Sevier. Emery concludes its season against North Sevier in a non-region matchup Tuesday in Salina.

Green River Girls

The Lady Pirates finished the season at 16-5 (8-2 in Region 19) and are gearing up for a deep playoff run in the 1A playoffs that start Wednesday. Green River will play host to Intermountain Christian Wednesday at the Sevier Valley Center at 7 p.m. If the Pirates win, they would play the winner of Rich and Bryce Valley Thursday.

Green River Boys

With the help of state’s leading scorer, the Pirates have remained undefeated in Region 19 and are looking for a no. 1 seed when the playoffs begin February 29. Justin Johnson leads the state with a 35 point-per-game average. The Pirates have two games remaining on their schedule. Tuesday at home against Pinnacle and February 23 at Monticello.
