After a close first quarter, the Emery Lady Spartans used a 16-0 run in the second to run away from the Grand Lady Red Devils Tuesday night, 78-56.

Camrey Johnson led three Lady Spartans in double figures with 16 points on 7-12 from the floor. Lainee Jensen (11 on 4-10 field goals) and Baylor Griffin (10 on 4-9) were both in double digits. Griffin also hit two threes in the game. Freshman Kinlee Toomer also hit two en route to six points. Her twin Kacelyn chipped in eight points on 4-5 from the field. Jessica Olsen also poured in seven points and grabbed nine rebounds.

After taking a 7-2 lead in the first three minutes, Emery saw Grand go on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 7. Johnson answered with a bucket on the next possession to regain the lead. A lead Emery would never relinquish. The Lady Spartans led after one quarter, 15-11.

After a Grand three at the 4:57 mark of the second to cut the Emery lead to 23-20, the Lady Spartans ripped off 16 straight before another Red Devil three with 10 seconds left killed the run. Jensen then hit a high-arcing floater at the buzzer to help her team to a comfortable 41-23 lead at the half.

Grand battled back in the third, winning the period 16-14. The closest the Lady Red Devils would get in the third was at the 2:55 mark when they cut the Emery lead to 15, 49-34. Emery led after three, though, 56-39.

Emery led by as many as 32, 72-40, in the fourth after a Bailey Huggard basket, but Grand finished the game on a 16-6 run.

Emery (11-6, 6-1 Region 15) will host winless Gunnison (2-16, 0-7 Region 15) on Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10.
