UPDATE

Huntington Canyon (SR-31) is now open according to Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk.

Earlier Friday evening, Public Safety Dispatch advised that the roadway would be closed throughout Saturday morning due to additional rainstorms in the area. After further assessment, it was determined that conditions were not as severe as once thought and SR-31 was reopened.

The canyon road was originally closed Thursday evening after debris from flash floods washed onto the surface of the road. Utah Department of Transportation crews worked throughout the day on Friday to clear the area.

As rainy weather continues, authorities will monitor conditions carefully. Burn scars from the Seely Fire increase the chance of mudslides and flooding throughout Huntington Canyon. Recreationalists and motorists are encouraged to use extreme caution while in the area.

Any further updates and/or road closures will be posted on ETV 10 News.
