Both Carbon baseball and softball teams were in Nephi Friday afternoon for important games against Juab.

The boys needed a win against the Wasps to sneak into the second seed in this weekend’s 3A Playoffs, but were thwarted by the home team 4-3 to finish the third seed out of Region 12.

Anthony Maclean started on the mound for the Dinos and gave up four earned in three innings for the loss. Carbon scored its runs in the third and fourth innings. Dallyn Mower and Cole Fossat each had two hits. Fossat and Mitch Olson had the only two RBIs in the game. Carbon had 10 total hits in the game to Juab’s eight.

The Dinos will next take on Park City at Juan Diego High School on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the first round of the 3A Playoffs.

The Lady Dinos took on 3A #2 Juab on Friday as well but lost the game 10-0, dropping to 4-3 in Region 12 play with one game remaining. That game will be on Tuesday in Price against Juab at 3:30 p.m.

With a win, the Lady Dinos would wrap up the second seed out of Region 12 in this weekend’s 3A Playoffs. With a loss and a North Sanpete win over Juab on Wednesday, Carbon would drop into a two-way tie with Canyon View for fourth place and a coin flip would then be needed to determine the third and fourth seed.
