On Wednesday, June 12th, Kickin’ Country FM 98.3 will hold it’s Annual Pie Auction over the air to sell pies baked or supplied by local residents, business leaders and dignitaries. This project is always a lot of fun for everyone involved and ALL MONIES raised from the auction will go to the Relay for Life – American Cancer Society in the form of gas cards for the residents of Carbon and Emery Counties receiving treatment out of town and a $2500 college scholarship.
Why the Relay for Life and American Cancer Society? This year, 10,000 Utah residents will hear the words, “You have cancer”. Many residents in the Castle Valley Area have been affected by cancer in some form or other either personally or a friend or family member who has been diagnosed with cancer. June is the month that the American Cancer Society holds their annual Relay for Life which will be on June 21st and 22nd which raises money for the American Cancer Society.
The American Cancer Society provides their Cancer Resource Network to everyone who is affected by cancer and is there for them every step of the way on their cancer journey providing people affected by cancer diagnosis with resources and support they need to cope with and manage what can be an overwhelming experience. The American Cancer Society is the nation’s largest private, not for profit, non-government source of funds for scientists studying cancer. Today, 68% of people diagnosed with cancer survive the disease thanks to research and new treatments in part funded by the American Cancer Society.
How does the Pie Auction work? We will get a commitment from as many as 50 people to bake (or buy) a pie for the Pie Auction. We’ll have the pies taken to a central refrigerated location the morning of the auction. We’ll air many, many promotional announcements on all of our radio stations telling people about the auction and about the Relay for Life and American Cancer Society. We’ll make up a schedule of the approximate time that each pie will be sold over the radio so that donors can alert friends to bid on their pie.
On Wednesday, June 12th at 9:00 a.m. we will begin the Pie Auction on Kickin’ Country 98.3 and 106.7 FM allowing approximately 7 to 9 minutes per pie. We will take bids over the telephone and have them announced by our local DJ’s and other people from the community. Except for sponsor mentions by the announcers, the auction period will be commercial free. If the donors of the individual pies want to join us during the auction period of their pies we can do that over the telephone. Remember, 100% of the money raised with go to the Relay for Life-American Cancer Society and will STAY LOCAL to benefit the residents of Carbon and Emery Counties.
