Lady Dinos’ Golf Team Moves Into Second Place in Region 12 Standings

The Carbons Lady Dino golf team placed fourth and second in back-to-back tournaments that took place last week.

Tuesday afternoon found the Lady Dinos in Vernal for the Dinaland Girls Invitational. Six teams competed in the invitational for the trophy. Uintah’s varisty team won the tournament with a stroke total of 367 for 18 holes. Uintah’s jv team tied with Spanish Fork for second at 390. Carbon placed fourth with 454 while Union was fifth at 456. Moffat County, from Colorado, was sixth at 459.

Lexi Garcia led the Dinos with a 105. Indie Gardner had a total of 109, Keely Marquez with 119 and Gwyn Kardelis came out with 121.

On Wednesday, Carbon had its home region match. Marquez led the Lady Dinos with 29 points. Gardner made 27, Kardelis had a total of 26 and Lexi Garcia made 25 points. Juab won the match with a point total of 120 for nine holes. Carbon placed second with 107, Canyon View took third with 91. North Sanpete grabbed fourth with 89 and Richfield fifth with 72 points.

This second place finish should move the Lady Dinos into second place in the Region 12 standings.

“We have had a couple weeks to work on some things and to be honest, what a difference a day makes,” stated coach Kenji Otani. “Believing in yourself and attitude are two of our main focal points and we didn’t have it in Vernal. But, what I saw at our home match was a completely different team. It wasn’t the scores they made, as much as their attitudes. They started to believe. Now we can compete. I am very proud of my team.”
