With only one senior on the team, the Lady Dinos defied predictions with a great run through their season. They played a tough play-in game to outlast Stansbury with a buzzer beating shot.

But when they hit the state tournament, they were not able to keep the momentum, losing their first round game to Dixie 42-25. In the consolidation game, they ran out of steam in the fourth to Bear River, suffering a 56-48 loss.

Coach Ted Bianco was upbeat about the performance at the tournament even with the quick exit.

“I am very proud of the team. We had pretty good success for such a young squad. The girls represented themselves well and played hard.” he said, “We played better in the second game and just ran out of gas in the fourth quarter. They (Bear River) got a few quick inside shots and we weren’t able to answer.”

Against Dixie on Thursday night, Katie Basinger was the high scorer for Carbon with seven points and Shailee Croasmun added five.. Shelby Cornforth pulled in six rebounds.

On Friday’s Bear River match-up. Cornforth and Talyor Oliver put up eight each. Jordan Scoggins and Giovanna Chiara added seven buckets. Chiara smashed the boards with 10 rebounds.

While the quick run was bitter sweet for the Lady Dinos, Coach Bianco is already looking ahead. All but one of the team is expected back next year with more experience between them.

“If they are willing to work hard over the off season, we should see a great season,” concluded Bianco.
