Friday and Saturday were not kind to the Green River Lady Pirates, pitting the 1A team against Monticello and Whitehorse on the basketball court with both games ending in a loss for Green River.

Friday’s home game against the Monticello Buckaroos started painfully for Green River with the visiting team taking a 30-9 lead by the end of the first half. Green River managed a game-high 10 in the third, but still gave up the overall 53-23.

Saturday found Green River taking on the Whitehorse Raiders, ending with another loss, 47-26. Green River put up an impressive 11 in the first, but couldn’t keep up the scoring action as Whitehorse outscored the team in every quarter.

Junior Maribel Escalante led her team in scoring, netting a combined 16 points over the weekend action. Teammate Daniela Mendez was behind with 15 while Senior Savannah Williams managed 13 total.

Escalante and Mendez also led the Lady Pirates in threes, with the former sinking two and the later one in Friday’s game.

The boys’ team also recently finished the season with a 4-18 overall record and went 2-5 in region play.
