Lady Pirates Take Win From Cross-Country Rival Pinnacle

The Lady Pirates sailed to a Region 19 win over cross-county rival Pinnacle on Wednesday, 58-33.

Maribel Escalante powered the hosting Green River squad in the matchup, scoring 24 points, including a game high seven treys.

The contest was close in the first quarter as the Lady Pirates took a narrow 13-12 lead going into the second. Green River padded its lead, draining 16 points and holding the Panthers to only seven in the second.

The Pirates’ momentum continued into the third as the team added 14 points while keeping Pinnacle to a game low four. The hosting team didn’t let up as they went to outscore the Panthers in the final quarter to take the region win.

Behind Escalante, Daniela Mendez added 17 for her team, including three buckets from downtown. Talynn Lovato also scored in double figures with 11.

Stephanie Sasser led the Panther’s in their effort with 13 points, including a lone trey. Alexus Salazar managed 12 for her team.

Green River will look for another win on Friday as the team travels to Whitehorse. Pinnacle will return to Price for a region contest against Wayne on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. tip.
