The Lady Spartans capped of their final home game of the season with a shutout win on Tuesday. The Richfield Wildcats traveled to Castle Dale for the Region 15 matchup that saw Emery dominate throughout the entire game.

The Spartans got off to a quick start as the team recorded three goals in the first while the defense held against Richfield. Two more connections with the net for Emery in the second were enough to put away the visiting Wildcats in the shutout.

Alexis Winter was impressive for Emery as she led the team with three goals. Tuesday’s goals take Winter to 20 on the year in just 15 games. Addy Healy and Morgan Hurdsman also played a large roll in the offense, each notching a goal apiece.

Mileena McElvaney controlled the defense throughout the game, recording the shutout, her third this year.

With the win, Emery has secured second place in Region 15 standings with a record of 7-2 and 10-4 overall. The Spartans sit behind an undefeated Manti team that clinched first place. Before the state competition, Emery will take to the field in one more game as the Spartans travel to Payson on Friday.

For the first round of the state playoffs, Emery is slated to host Region 14’s #6, which is currently Carbon High. The game is scheduled for Oct. 11 at 4 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10 and online at www.etv10news.com/livesports.
