A trip to Moab always seems like a welcome respite from the daily grind of high school or from anything for that matter.

It was exactly that Tuesday for the Lady Spartans as they scored 4 and 2 runs, respectively, in the sixth and seventh innings to pull out a tough victory over the Red Devils from Grand County High School, 11-8. Grand tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning scoring three runs to pull within three, but Emery slammed the door on any comeback for its third-straight win and seventh of eight, overall.

Auminee Bennett, Shandee Jewkes and Whitney Roper all homered in the game while Jeridi Price picked up the win from the pitcher’s circle. Price is 5-1 on the season. There were a combined 33 hits in the game, 17 by the Spartans.

Emery (9-3) will next host South Sevier (2-7) Tuesday, then North Sevier the following day. Both games are slated for 3:30 p.m.

Emery baseball blew an 8-6 lead after four innings to lose to Grand 11-10. The Red Devils countered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and added the deciding run in the sixth for the win. Jordan Cox picked up his first loss on the season from the mound.

The Spartans have alternated wins and losses in their last eight games.

Emery (5-4) will host region foe Monticello (0-2) Friday before welcoming South Sevier on Tuesday.
