Lady Spartans Go 3-0 in Holiday Tourney, Remain Perfect on Season

The Emery Lady Spartans participated in the South Mountain Holiday Classic at Summit Academy High School over the weekend, outscoring their opponents 247-115 en route to an unblemished 3-0 record.

Megan Jensen averaged 19.6 points and seven rebounds to lead the Lady Spartans. Kacelyn Toomer was right behind, averaging 18 ppg, 5.3 assists and 5.3 steals per game. Kinlee Toomer added eight apg as well. Lainee Jensen connected on 10-24 threes over the three-game span, averaging 12 ppg.

In game one against 5A Jordan on Friday, Emery raced out to an impressive 47-13 lead at the halftime break. The Lady Spartans would win the lopsided affair, 75-30. Lainee Jensen scored 18 points on 6-10 from the three-point line to lead her team. Kacelyn Toomer added 17 on 8-12 from the floor, adding five assists and four steals.

Next up was Westlake High School junior varsity on Friday as well. Emery scored no less than 19 points in a quarter (the fourth quarter), winning the game by a whopping 103-40 margin. Megan Jensen netted 31 points on 14-15 from the floor in just 18 minutes of action. Kacelyn Toomer added 17 and six assists.

In their final game of the weekend, the Lady Spartans took a 67-46 victory against Judge Memorial. After a relatively close first half, 41-29 in favor of Emery, the Lady Spartans limited the Bulldogs to just seven points in the third for the win. Kacelyn Toomer did it all in the game, scoring a game high 20 points while adding eight steals, five assists and five rebounds. She also connected on 4-6 three pointers. Megan Jensen chipped in 18 points and eight rebounds as well.

Emery (10-0, 0-0 Region 15) will kick off Region 15 action Tuesday with a road tilt at Richfield, who has lost just one game on the season compared to eight wins. The game will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10 at 7 p.m.
