Sophomore Lainee Jensen nailed a career-high seven three pointers in the Emery Lady Spartans’ 85-46 domination of Manti Tuesday night in Castle Dale. Emery nailed 17 threes in the game, breaking the all-time Utah state record of 15 set by Judge Memorial against West from 2013.

Behind Jensen’s 22 total points, which was a career-best, Camrey Johnson poured in a career-high 20 that included three treys. Freshmen Kinlee Toomer and Morgan Hurdsman both added three threes in the win en route to nine points apiece, both career bests. Kacelyn Toomer hit the only other three in the game.

Emery tied the all-time mark of 15 back on Jan. 12 at Grand, in which nine Lady Spartans tallied at least one three. Emery’s 36 attempts against the Templars are good for second all time behind Bryce Valley who attempted 37 in 2014.

Emery came out in the first quarter on fire, hitting five threes in the first four minutes, three from Jensen and another from Johnson. The Lady Spartans finished the first quarter with six threes (Kinlee Toomer hit the sixth at 1:33) and led 26-12.

Kinlee Toomer opened the second with another three, the team’s seventh, to extend the lead to 17, 29-12. Johnson hit another three at the 6:40 mark for number eight. Kacelyn Toomer hit her only three of the game shortly thereafter for nine total threes in the first 10 minutes of the game. Hurdsman would make it 10 at 2:25 and another Kinlee Toomer three at 1:15 made it 11 treys in the first half alone. The Lady Spartans led at halftime 43-24, with 33 points coming by way of the three.

But Emery wasn’t finished.

The 12th three came from Jensen within the first minute of the third. Johnson found the bottom of the net again from distance at 5:40, giving Emery a total of 13 threes in the game. Jensen would hit her sixth and seventh three midway through the quarter, and Hurdsman added another with under a minute to go to break the all-time record with 16 total made threes in a game. Emery took a commanding 68-40 lead into the fourth quarter.

Hurdsman hit her final three at the 7:30 mark of the fourth for Emery’s 17th trey of the game.

The 85 points scored by the Lady Spartans was the highest since a Dec. 16, 2010 game against ALA, in which they also scored 85 points.

Megan Jensen scored nine points in the win. Although she didn’t score in the game, Bayler Griffin dished out 11 assists.

Emery (10-5, 5-0 Region 12, #3 in 2A) will take its perfect region record on the road Thursday to Salina for a matchup with North Sevier (12-3, 4-1 Region 12). The Lady Spartans beat the then #3 Wolves 57-48 in Castle Dale on Jan. 14.
