Lady Spartans Take Over Second Place in Region 15

The Lady Spartans golf team improved its score by 28 strokes in a week and are now securely in second place in the region. The team previously graduated five golfers from the state championship team last season and this year’s team, so far, consists of one senior, Lainee Jensen, who was an all state selection last year.

Kayla Winn and Raegan Sitterud are the two junior golfers. The duo played for the junior varsity team last year and are improving and setting the foundation for this year’s team, according to coach Tom Hansen. The team is also joined by three freshmen that are contributing great scores in the first two matches: Sydney Alton along with Macie and Angie Nielsen.

The team consists of the top six qualifiers and currently there are 15 girls participating for the coveted six spots. In comparison, the first week’s team score totlled 246 and this week turned out to be 218.

“These girls are working hard, very coachable and improving daily,” Hansen said.
