A big first inning propelled the Grand Red Devils past the Emery Lady Spartans Thursday afternoon in Castle Dale, 15-3, claiming the 2A East victory.

Grand scored seven runs in the opening inning, putting Emery in a hole early, a hole from which they couldn’t climb out. Another six runs in the fourth ended the game after just five innings.

Bailey Huggard went all five innings in the circle, giving up 15 runs with only five of them earned. The Lady Spartans committed seven errors leading to the 10 unearned runs. Emery tallied five hits in the game, two of which came off the bat of leadoff hitter Addy Healy. Morgann Donaldson knocked in the only earned run in the game for Emery via an RBI double in the first inning. Ambree Bennett and Regan Rasmussen had the other hits in the game for the Lady Spartans.

Emery (8-6, 0-3 2A East) will participate in a tournament in Payson this weekend. The Lady Spartans will then travel to fellow 2A East member Piute on Tuesday.
