After scoring just three points in their 35-3 loss last week to Summit Academy, the Emery Spartans were shut out against the visiting Payson Lions Friday night, 17-0.
The game was stuck in a 0-0 tie until the Lions scored with 24.8 seconds left in the third quarter. They added another touchdown and a field goal in the fourth to round out the scoring.
The Spartans were shut out for the first time since a 35-0 loss to Morgan back on Sept. 19, 2014. Emery went 1-8 that season.
Emery (0-3, 0-0 3A North) will travel to take on the Manti Templars (0-3, 0-0 3A South) next Friday. Manti was thrashed by Pine View on Friday night, 56-14.
