Local Athletes Represent at State Wrestling, Emery Allstars Grab Third

Emery All stars receiving 3rd in 2A division for a team trophy

Four area wrestling teams competed at the Utah So/Central Little League State Wrestling  tournament in Beaver on Saturday.

Emery Allstars, Carbon Raptors, East Carbon Diggers and Grand County entered wrestlers ranging in age from preschoolers to eighth graders. A total of 40 teams participated in weight classes relevant to the age of the grapplers.

Six of Emery Allstars ranked first in their respective weight and grade classes in the competition: Drake Stilson, Hazen Meccariello, Monty Christiansen, Merritt Meccariello, Byron Christiansen and Bryar Meccariello. Four placed second: Damon Farley, Hayden Christiansen, Easton Thornley and Thomas McElprang. Three were third: Orrin McElprang, Sid Christiansen and Zayn Defa.

Four received fourth place-medals: Benjamin Farley, Mason Thornley, Tyler Stilson and Hays Dalton. Other team members participating were Brock Esplin, Jesse Drage, Ty Christiansen, Mikel Ilijics, Brayson World, Mason Stilson, Jack Christiansen and Eli Christensen. The 25-member Emery Allstar team compiled 199 points, ranking fifth in the tournament.

The 21-member East Carbon Diggers gained 54 points and ranked 21sy. Jared Simmons received a first-place rank, Colston and Ardan Bridge both scored second-place medals and William Bridge and Ryelan Ferguson took fourth. The other participating member of the team was Everrette Johnson.

The Carbon Raptors had seven members competing at the tourney. Kruz Arroyos ranked first and Brodee Bingham captured third while Brax Tapia, Landyn Campbell and Taci Tapia placed fourth in their respective grade and weight classes.

Other members of the team at the tournament were Kaden Donathan and Paiten Thomas. The Carbon team, being short on participants, scored 46 points and ranked 25th.

Grand County wrestlers ranked eighth with 142 total team points. All 11 wrestlers placed in the top four of their classes. First place awards were given to Cooper Swasey, Austin Paris, Lane Peterson, Bracken Bosh and Landon Moralez. Braydon Bosh ranked second.  Ruston Peterson, Trevin Stewart, Caden Swasey all placed third and Connor Swasey was fourth.
