A local sub-committee for community beautification has been tirelessly working to coordinate with a number of entities to make the community shine and thrive. One of the projects that the committee has been trying to tackle for some time now is the beautification of exit 240 near Castleview Hospital.

This exit will be one of three exits that will potentially be improved over the next several years. During the regularly scheduled Carbon County Commission meeting on Wednesday, commissioners were presented with a memorandum of understanding with UDOT as well as a memorandum of understanding with Price City to pay for the annual maintenance.

This memorandum would allow the county to go in and make modifications to the exit and make it more attractive in order for a passersby to feel more inclined to come into the city and possibly visit again. County Attorney Christian Bryner stated that the insurance had some questions with language that was in the contract. Bryner worked on it and sent back some language changes to UDOT, who accepted the changes.

UDOT has pledged $50,000 for this project and Castleview Hospital has pledged $10,000. Other partners have subsequently stepped in, and in total, there is approximately $70,000 that will help to complete this project. This money will be utilized in the purchasing of materials to be placed at the exit to make it more appealing for travelers.

Carbon County entities have pledged to actually perform the work, which means that they will go in to lace the gravel and perform some of the design work. Jones and DeMille have donated some of its time and effort for the design of the exit as well.

“This will be a great project to kick off the beautification committee,” commissioner Casey Hopes stated.

This project and the memorandums of understanding were approved and signed by the commissioners. Commissioner Hopes then thanked the committee for its efforts to make this possible.
