The Southeast Utah Health Department celebrated last week as they received a grant from SelectHealth.

The grant that was received will be geared toward the suicide prevention program that runs through the health department. As funding is limited for the program, Debbie Marvidakis is ecstatic about the new funds.

“Previously, there was no funding for the suicide prevention program, so it feels great to receive funding and we take it seriously,” explained Marvidakis Health Promotion Director for the Southeast Utah Health Department.

Representatives from the health department and the Hope Squad of Carbon traveled to Salt Lake City on Tuesday to receive the grant and attend a luncheon. Of the 500 applicants, only 25 were selected for the grant.

“It was interesting to see that this year, three of those grants were awarded to suicide prevention programs,” Marvidakis expressed. “We are excited and honored for this award.”
