Local Wrestlers Compete in 3A Duels at SVC

Carbon Dinos and Emery Spartan wrestlers competed at the state 3A Duels in Richfield at the Sevier Valley Center on Friday and Saturday. Sixteen teams were represented in two divisions and divided into seven rounds. JV wrestlers were also involved in this tournament.

The 17-member Dino team was in Division A and competed against seven other 3A teams. They were victorious over Grand, Manti, American Leadership Academy (ALA) and an independent team. Carbon ranked fourth in this division following all ten rounds. Leading grapplers for the Dinos included Triton Abeyta with a 9-2 record, Conner Fausett, 9-2, Kayden Robertson, 9-1, and Keityn Hunt, 8-3.

Thirteen Emery wrestlers were registered in the 3A duels and competed in Division B. The Spartan team gained fifth place by defeating Summit Academy, Grantsville, Manti, San Juan and Grand. Two Emery seniors, Newt Oveson and AC Reeve, were undefeated at the meet and had a 10-0 record. Team members McKay Meccariello and Korby Christiansen each lost one match and ended with 9-1 records.
