DWR Press Release

You can get up close and personal with as many as five species of bats at a special Meet the Bats Night in southeastern Utah.

The Division of Wildlife Resources will host the free event on July 18. The event starts at 8:30 p.m. “It will continue well past midnight but you’re welcome to leave at any time.” said DWR Regional Conservation Outreach Manager Brent Stettler.

Stettler said the event isn’t suitable for pets or young children. It’s limited to 25 people and preregistration is required.  “When you call to register, we’ll give you the location and other details about the event,” he explained.

To register, or for more information, call Stettler a (435) 613-3707.

On the night of July 18, Stettler said biologists will catch bats in a fine mesh net. After catching a bat, they’ll remove it from the net and collect biological data.  “During this time,” he said, “you can get as close to the bat as you want.”

Biologists will show you how to identify each species and will answer any questions you have. “There will be ample opportunity to take pictures and examine each bat closely,” Stettler said.
