The USU Eastern men and women’s soccer teams split games against Sheridan on Thursday as the woman swept the Wyoming team and the men saw a narrow loss.

The women dominated Sheridan in a matchup that saw nearly 30 shots on goal by the Eagles. Sheridan got one attempt on the goal in the game as USU Eastern dominated play to take the 6-0 win.

“They are looking better,” head coach Ammon Bennett commented about the women’s team. “We tried to keep them intense the whole game, but there are still things to work on.”

The men did not fair as well in the matchup as they dropped the game 3-2.

“The men’s team did not play well and they made a lot of fundamental mistakes,” Bennett said. “We had some opportunities to tie the game up and make it a good game, but we gave them two goals off of some really poor decisions.”

Jake Clements was the lone scorer for USU Eastern, notching two goals in the first half. Sheridan answered with two goals of its own in the opening half, leaving the game in a tie at the break. Sheridan made a final push in the second, notching another goal to put the team over the Eagles.

Both Eagles teams will travel to Powell Wyoming to take on Northwest College on Saturday.
