Men’s Soccer Team Grabs Victory, Women Tie on the Road for USU Eastern

The men’s and women’s soccer teams from USU Eastern traveled to Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) for games on Saturday.

The women competed well, tying 1-1 to end the game. Jacquelyn Tagg netted the ball for USU in the first half. A goal for WWCC in the first tied the game. The team battled hard throughout the game, even resulting in USU’s keeper needing stitches by the end of the matchup according to the USU Eastern Soccer Team Facebook page. Each team remained scoreless in the second.

The men won their game on Saturday despite being 10 men short of their regular team, walking away with a 4-3 win.

“The boys went to play WWCC 10 men short because of some poor choices.” USU Eastern coaches shared on the team’s Facebook page. “Yet our players that went played amazing and won the game.”

Ozwald Cruz scored 19 minutes in, earning the lone goal for the game in the first. USU Eastern held strong throughout the majority of the game, scoring two more goals in the second. Alexis Beiza scored at 45 minutes and Brody Garder grabbed another for the team at 81:14.

WWCC bounced back fast and took control of the game, scoring at 81:52 before netting the ball two more times to end the second. Tied at 3-3, the game went into overtime. Another goal by Beiza and solid goal keeping from Dylan Mcillece earned USU the road win.

The men will take on Salt Lake Community College at home on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The women will take a break before facing Laramie County Community College on the road on Sept. 28.
