On April 2, the infamous “Mountain Man” was arrested near Ferron Reservoir in Sanpete County after he fired at a Department of Public Safety helicopter. At the time, Troy James Knapp had been charged in Beaver, Kane, Garfield, Iron, and Sanpete counties for seven year’s worth of cabin burglaries in which he would ransack cabins for items for survival in the wilderness.

On Tuesday, Emery County charged Knapp in the Seventh District Court on multiple charges including first-degree aggravated burglary, two counts of second-degree felony theft, second-degree felony burglary, class A misdemeanor theft, and a class B misdemeanor criminal mischief charge.

The charges against Knapp come from two cabins he allegedly burgled near Joe’s Valley. The “Mountain Man” is accused of stealing a rifle, two handguns, binoculars, and a pair of Army surplus boots in one burglary. The charges state that in the second burglary “it looked like items had been moves around, but it appeared nothing was missing.”

At the time of his arrest, Knapp reportedly had one of the stolen guns on his person. He admitted to authorities that he in fact broke into both cabins.

Knapp is currently being held in the Sanpete County Jail.
