The first resolution of the New Year passed during the first meeting of the Wellington City Council on Wednesday night.

The resolution dealt with amending the proposed receipts and expenditures of the city for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2016 and ending June 30, 2017.

The resolution’s goal was to balance the budget at the end of the fiscal year, and was needed after an unforeseen loss of $58,000 from the city which came about due to help ease the burden of a point of sales tax from Joy Global which has had a ripple effect across the state in past years.

While the tax has existed for previous years, it came as a surprise to both the fairly new council and city recorder.

“It is what it is and you adjust,” Wellington City Recorder Glenna Etzel said.
