The Lady Spartans had a final matchup on Friday before gearing up for the state playoffs this week. Emery traveled to Payson for the nonregion matchup where the Lions found themselves on top to head into the weekend.
The first half saw goals for both teams with Payson notching two while the Spartans put a lone goal on the board. The Lions were able to extend their lead after the break with three more connections with the net. Emery’s single goal in the second was not enough to secure the win as Payson took the game 5-2.
Alexis Winter and Jocee Funk led the offense for Emery, each scoring one goal apiece.
For the first round of the state playoffs, Emery is slated to host Region 14’s #6, Carbon High. The game is scheduled for Oct. 11 at 4 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ETV Channel 10 and online at www.etv10news.com/livesports.
