Baseball has begun for the Pinnacle Panthers. The team kicked off their season against Panguitch on Aug. 7 in Price. A quick start by the visiting team caught the Panthers by surprise. Panguitch defeated Pinnacle, 16-2.

Two runs in the bottom of the fifth would be the only points Pinnacle would put on the board against Panguitch, the defending state champions. According to Panthers coach, Cameron Gardner, the team quickly shook off the loss and focused on their next opponent, Tintic.

Pinnacle opened strong in the first of two games against Tintic on Aug. 10. Two runs in the top of the first quickly put the Panthers in the lead. Three runs in both the fourth and seventh innings would push Pinnacle further ahead of Tintic. At the end of seven, Pinnacle captured their first win of the season by the final score, 8-5.

With momentum in their favor, Pinnacle stepped up to play a second game against the home team, Tintic. Once again, the Panthers came out strong. This time however, the team scored 11 runs in the first inning. Never looking back, Pinnacle continued to play strong and defeated Tintic, 18-8 in only five innings.

The Panthers will hit the road again this week to compete in a Richfield tournament  on Aug. 15 and 16. The team plays again at home on Aug. 19 at 4 p.m. against Wendover. Pinnacle will play all home games at the USU Eastern baseball field in north Price.
