The Pinnacle Lady Panthers opened the volleyball season with a loss against Tintic on Wednesday. The preseason matchup saw four games for Pinnacle as the team fell 3-1.

The opening game was a close contest as the Panthers lost 25-17. The second game saw the same score. The team rallied in the third, coming back with a 25-23 win. Another tough set in the fourth saw a loss of 25-16.

“Actually, I was very happy,” head coach Heidi Kay said. “We didn’t win, but I was glad with how we played. We just need to fine tune a couple of things.”

Kay was especially pleased with the performance of Alexus Salazar on both sides of the ball.

“She had some blocks and a couple good hits,” Kay said. “Once she progresses and gets her timing down, she will be tough to beat.”

Nikki Borba also was a key player for the Panthers with her serving throughout all four games. The sophomore served 17 times for the team.

“She was consistent and that is something you need to win ball games,” Kay said.

In the JV matchup, the Panthers faired better against Tintic, taking home a win.

The varsity team will continue play this weekend at a tournament in Duchesne. The team will then travel to Wendover for a matchup on Tuesday.
