A fourth quarter run by hosting Monticello capped off Green River’s region play with a loss as the Pirates fell 66-57 on Tuesday.

The Pirates kept pace with #1 Monticello throughout the game, allowing the team only a one point advantage going into the fourth. Monticello’s offense sparked in the fourth as the team went on to chip in 20 points to take the Region 19 win.

The teams traded buckets in the first with Monticello taking a slim 15-13 lead into the second. The Pirates pushed past the hosting team, outscoring their opponents 13-10 in the second, to take a one point lead at the half.

The third saw back and fourth shooting as Monticello took back a one point lead to go into the fourth. Shooting woes doomed the Pirates in the final quarter as the team managed its lowest output of the night, 13, to take the loss.

Axel Anguiano fueled the Pirates with 18 points, including three buckets from behind the arc. Trey Vetere also chipped in three treys, good for 13 on the night. Rad Hughes also scored in double digits for the Pirates with 10.

With the loss, Green River ends the season the winner of three games in Region 19 play, good for the #5 spot. The Pirates went 5-14 overall on the season.
