Price City Police Department Press Release

On Sunday, Price City Police officers booked Matthew Alan Thatcher, 33, of Price into the Carbon County Jail, on an attempted murder charge, a first degree felony. Additional charges are likely upon review by the Carbon County Attorney’s Office.

On Sunday at 6:40 p.m., Price Public Safety Dispatch broadcast a report of a male subject being intentionally run over. The suspect vehicle fled the scene.

Sgt. Tracy Allred’s crew began investigating the crime. Reliable eyewitness statements were obtained and corroborating forensic evidence was documented and seized at the scene. The 32-year-old male victim was transported to Castleview Hospital by the Carbon County ambulance for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Price police officers and Carbon County deputies followed up leads, identifying the 32-year-old girlfriend and passenger of Thatcher. Thatcher’s 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee was seized. Thatcher was arrested at his residence in Price.

Subsequent interviews with Thatcher and the victim allegedly point to an ongoing dispute between the two. Upon seeing the victim riding his bicycle at about 670 E 400 S in Price, Thatcher allegedly seized the opportunity to run the victim over. Upon being knocked down to the road, the victim jumped up and began running away. Thatcher allegedly ran over the victim a second time, dragging him a short distance.
