Critical wastewater services for Carbon County residents will continue at pre-flood quality thanks to a $600,000 grant from the Utah Permanent Community Impact Fund Board (CIB).The grant will enable the Price River Water Improvement District to proceed with substantial repairs and upgrades needed for the wastewater treatment plant because of the recent flood damage.
“The CIB grant is a blessing for our community, allowing us to begin repairs immediately on this vital service and eliminating the need to increase sewer rates for our residents,” said Carbon County Commissioner Jae Potter. “This grant demonstrates the CIB’s commitment to quality of life projects in rural Utah and will help us recover from the damaging floods this past summer.”
The wastewater treatment plant project consists of:
· Replacing numerous small pumps, electrical circuitry, automatic controls, air compressors, emergency generators and power tools
· Repairing a damaged building and equipment
· Building a dyke on the west and south sides of the treatment plant
The $600,000 grant for the emergency flood damage repairs was approved as a suspend and fund action at the monthly CIB meeting held on Dec. 11.
The CIB awards grants and low-interest loans to cities, towns and counties impacted by mining and the extraction of oil and gas on federal land. Projects funded by the CIB benefit rural Utah by creating safer, more livable communities.
