Price American Legion was in search of a doubleheader sweep of Highland Monday. Though it didn’t get what it wanted, it got the next best thing; a split.

Steven Zamantakis started game one for manager Willie Ellington and pitched the entire game. Highland struck first in the top of the first, but Price was able to tie it up in the second inning on an RBI double from Jeter Tubbs. Highland tacked on two more in the fifth inning to extend its lead to 3-1, which was the final score of the game. Price got a single in the bottom of the seventh from Hagan Wood, but couldn’t get him home.

In game two, Price got a triple from Zac Hathaway in the top of the first and was driven home on a single by Caden Sherman to lead early. Price added three more runs in the second to take a 4-3 lead after two innings. Highland responded with two in the fourth to regain the advantage, but an RBI double in the top of the seventh by Tubbs and another run by Isaiah Martinez helped Price to the win. Anthony MacLean got the win on the mound. Brendan Johnson had two singles in the game and a RBI. MacLean, Chris Herrera, and Wood each notched singles in the win.

With the split, Price sits at 2-4 in the Salt Lake Valley League standings. It would need to be in the top four to reach the state tournament later this month. Price is currently in sixth place.
