Principal Spotlight: Melinda Durrant, Castle Dale Elementary

Melinda Durrant was born in Pocatello, Idaho, to Claron and Vicky Durrant. She is the second oldest of six children. The family moved to Huntington in 1979 when her dad accepted a teaching position with Emery County School District. Being born to a father who was a teacher and mother who loved children, Melinda has an innate disposition for being an educator.

Melinda grew up in Huntington loving school and reading. She graduated from Emery County High in 1991 and then the College of Eastern Utah in 1993. It was then on to Utah State University where she graduated in 1997 with a dual degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education.

She began her teaching career at Book Cliff Elementary in Green River as a half-day kindergarten teacher and a half-day Title 1 Coordinator. She spent the next 18 years at Book Cliff teaching kindergarten, first, fourth, fifth and sixth grades.

In 2011, she received her Administrative Degree and became the principal at Book Cliff half-time while teaching half-time as well.

In 2015, Mrs. Durrant became the principal at Castle Dale Elementary. She brings a love of kids, a desire to help each child do their best, and her deepest wish that each child be successful and on the path to an awesome life.

Melinda loves to read, write poetry and stories, and take pictures  She is involved in community theater and a local singing group.
