The lineup for this year’s Desertview Pro Rodeo continues to grow as cowboys and cowgirls from across the West sign up to compete in the event. The competition will take place July 24-26 at the Castle Dale Rodeo Arena and will feature several National Finals Rodeo stars.

Scheduled to appear at the rodeo are world champion team ropers Randon Adams and Matt Sherwood. The pair captured the world title at the NFR in 2008.

Twin brothers Jake and Jesse Wright will enter the saddle bronc event. Jake, a two time NFR qualifier, and Jesse, a four time qualifier and 2012 world champion, will each appear at the Castle Dale event.

Utah native Rusty Allen will also compete in the saddle bronc competition. Allen has made five National Finals appearances.

In the bareback event, 2009 NFR qualifier Josi Young will compete as well as four-time qualifier Cody DeMers.

In bull riding, Sonny Murphy, a Utah native, will compete. Murphy also made an appearance in the 2006 NFR event.

Several local rodeo athletes will also participate in  the Desertview Pro Rodeo. Melanie Adams will compete in barrel racing. Justin Truman will enter the calf roping event and Kache Moosman will look to clock an eight-second ride in bull riding.

This year’s stock contractor is Bar T Rodeo from Chester, Utah. This is the first year the contractor has participated in the Desertview Pro Rodeo, but the company has been along for quite some time. In fact, Bar T has been in business for over 60 years and is the only stock company to send an animal to every National Finals Rodeo.

Bullfighters for the Castle Dale event will be Aaron Ferguson and Mark Gill. Ferguson was named one of three bullfighters in the 2013 NFR event and will appear each night in Castle Dale.

Thursday night, clown Randy Munns will entertain the crowd. Frankie Smith, also known as Punkintown, will appear Friday and Saturday evening as the rodeo clown.

Each night, spectators will have the opportunity to win prizes and buy raffle tickets. Thursday evening, two tickets to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas along with hotel accommodations will be given away.

Friday and Saturday night, a contest will be conducted giving the public a chance to win a Dodge Dart from Price Auto Group.

Raffle tickets will be sold each night with proceeds going to Perky Travel, a service that provides gas cards to cancer patients that need to travel for treatment. The winning ticket will be drawn Saturday for a bow and gun.

Each night, a wild cow milking contest and muttin busting will be conducted. To enter either event, contact Emery County Recreation prior to the rodeo at (435) 381-2108.

This year’s rodeo is expected to be the entertaining and fun for the entire family.
