With only half of the organizations that report to the Emery County Public Lands Council in attendance at Tuesday’s monthly meeting, the DWR dominated discussions with outlines of the plan to treat Ferron Reservoir with rotenone Sept. 22.

The treatment would kill all the fish currently in the reservoir, which would shut down fishing until next spring.

The treatment was deemed necessary because unwanted fish species began taking over the reservoir. Ferron Reservoir would be restocked with wanted, native fish next spring.

The DWR doesn’t plan to treat any other lakes or reservoirs in the area, but the organization will treat the stream leaving Ferron Reservoir to prevent the unwanted fish from returning.
