By Rakele Palmer

I started working for the school district in 1988 as a part-time employee. In 1992, I was hired as the school secretary, which started a very interesting journey. I worked at Petersen Elementary until 2007, then on to our new school Bruin Point.

I have had eight bosses and have learned something valuable from each one of them, patience being the most important, as well as organization and diligence. Above all, my life lessons have come from the children that have come and gone. To be courageous, to have fun, not to bully and that an ice pack and a bandage is worth every minute of my time.

I have a wonderful family; four beautiful daughters and their spouses, seven grandchildren and a very handsome husband. I hope that my future includes some travel, a little R&R and lots of volunteering!

I am going to miss my Bruin Point family; they are not simply my coworkers, they are my friends. My favorite quote and author comes from Dr. Seuss, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
