The Price American Legion Raptors traveled to Vernal on Thursday for a doubleheader. Price had late leads in both games only to have Vernal score in the final inning in both to earn the sweep. Both games ended in 9-8, Vernal wins.

The Raptors jumped out quickly in front of Vernal in game one, scoring five runs in the opening frame. They had four hits and two unofficial at-bats (one walk, one HBP) in the inning. Duncan LaCombe, Gavin Robinette, Carsyn Kosmack and Alyjah Ellington all had singles.

Price scored another three runs in the fourth to take the 8-3 lead, but Vernal scored the final six runs in the game, including a run in the bottom of the seventh, to earn the win. Trevor Pummell pitched the entire game and picked up the loss.

It was much of the same in game two as Price squirted out to a 6-2 lead after the fourth only to see Vernal score seven runs in the final three innings for the doubleheader sweep. Pummell went 2-4 with a double and a single. Robinette added a double as well. Tyson Busch had single in the game, as did Remington Motte. LaCombe had the other hit in the game, a single in the fourth. Busch also went the distance on the mound.

Price will be off until next week when it hosts Roosevelt for a doubleheader on Wednesday at 4 and 6 p.m. The games will be played at USU Eastern’s field.
