Vistors traveling through the San Rafael Swell will soon have access to vital information as the new Buckhorn Information Center nears completion. The kiosk, which is located west of Castle Dale on the Swell’s doorstep, will feature pubic restrooms, picnic tables, and most importantly, educational information about one of the most unique places on Earth.

“[The kiosk] is a way to try and educate and inform people about the proper use of the San Rafael Swell,” said Mike McCandless, Emery County Economic Development Director.

The only remaining task left to complete is filling the kiosk with informational literature. Four bids were submitted to the Emery County Commission from companies wishing to do just that. The Emery County TravelВ Bureau recommended Interpretive Graphics, a Salt Lake City-based company, to the commission because it was the lowest-cost bid. The commission said it would review the bids and make a final decision at its next meeting.

With money left over from the Buckhorn project, the Travel Bureau requested that a lecture area be built. This cement space would include benches and a fire pit making it an ideal area for scout groups and family gatherings. The commission approved the addition to the project with the understanding that there would be no additional money used.

An exact date of completion has yet to be determined. However, public restrooms on site are currentlyВ available.
