Highway 6 was closed on Monday evening after a semi carrying 38,000 gallons liquid carbon dioxide rolled at mile post 209.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the incident occurred when the semi left the roadway and rolled over after attempting to correct the issue.

“The semi landed on the passenger side, causing extensive damage,” UHP officials shared. However, the driver was uninjured and no other vehicles were involved.

The highway was then closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene. “The trailer was compromised and had to be manually vented,” a media release further stated. “The process took several hours to safely complete.”

Traffic was diverted to SR-89 for eastbound traffic and Scofield for westbound. Crews managed to clear the area after several hours and allow traffic through.
