By Jeff Wood, Carbon County Sheriff
With summer in full swing, there are a lot of fun activities going on in Carbon County.
We recently enjoyed Pleasant Valley Days in Scofield with fireworks and an awesome town celebration. I would like to thank those behind the scenes that make this possible each year. It’s a fun annual event. The Energy Days celebration was also a lot of fun as well as East Carbon’s town celebration and rodeo. I again want to thank all of those behind the scenes that make these events possible.
I want to remind everyone that the fireworks restrictions are still in place in the unincorporated areas of the county and to check with your local city’s fire chief to be sure you are in compliance with any restrictions that may be in place in each city. Enjoy the summer festivities but do so in a safe manner.
We recently posted an issue with illegal dumping and I wanted to discuss this further. I have noticed over the past several years that there are dump sites all over in the cedars above the airport as well as Wood Hill area. I believe these are the result of folks going to the dump to find it closed and are unloading their garbage in the cedars. The Sheriff’s Office will be increasing enforcement on this issue and investigating these incidents. I want to ask everyone to please not dump their trash in the back country of our county.
I would like to encourage everyone to enjoy summer. We do have a lot of fun activities scheduled this year. Our annual Search and Rescue Demolition Derby will be on August 12 at 6 p.m. We have 27 cars signed up as of Wednesday for the show with rumors of others being built. It should be one amazing show this year. Please plan to attend.
It’s a true pleasure to serve this great community in the position of sheriff.
