Shoot, Stick It, Support Cancer Research

Shooting a stuffed replica of a mountain goat may not look like a typical fundraiser for cancer research. That being said, the second annual stick it to cancer event was hosted over Father’s Day weekend where that very scene took place.

Wanting to appeal to a wider range of community members, Community Nursing Services employee Angie Fausett reached out to North Springs Archery Club who agreed to help.

Working together, the team decided on a 20-target 3-D course which gave attendees the chance to enjoy archery and donate to a worthy cause as well. Thus, the Stick it to Cancer event was born.

In its second year, various classes were available for those interested in participating such as men’s and women’s hunter and open class as well as a women’s youth class and one for youth shooters.

Throughout Saturday and Sunday, a total of 53 participants attended the event and a total of $518 was raised, with all money raised being given directly to CNS and the Relay for Life Fund which benefits the American Cancer Society, according to shoot organizer Adam Bedont.

Bedont was able to put on the event at the range along with the help of Fausett as well as Charity Kiahtipes, also from CNS.

“We had a ton of sponsors,” Bedont further explained. Local businesses such as Bill’s Home Furnishings and Big 5 Sporting Goods offered prizes to lucky shoot-goers as well as several other sponsors including Lancaster Archery as well as OK Archery.

The door prize was donated in part from Vortex Optics and Bill’s Home Furnishings and included a range finder worth around $350, according to Bedont.
