Press Release

PRICE, UTAH – The Utah State Eastern women’s soccer lost to the Salt Lake Community College Bruins on Friday and Saturday in Price.

The Bruins shut out the Eagles on Friday by a score of 4-0 in sloppy field conditions. Salt Lake’s Maida Aligajic scored the first goal of the match in the first three minutes to give the Bruins a early lead. The scoring continued for the Bruins in the first half with another goal in the 33′ minute by Meghan Walker.

The Eagles would allow two more goals in the second half to put the game away and give the Bruins the win.

Utah State Eastern’s head coach said even though the weather played a role in the loss, his team still made too many mistakes.

“The weather made it difficult but we gave away the ball too many times. Salt Lake’s thought process and game management was better than ours during the game.” said Bennett.

Saturday had better weather but saw the same results as the Eagles lost again in a 3-0 shutout by Salt Lake. The Eagles allowed two quick goals in the beginning of the game to give the Bruins a huge lead throughout the first half. Mistakes by the Eagles made it easy for Salt Lake’s Kamryn Worthington and Chloe Hendrickson to get a goal for the Bruins early.

“We made the same mistakes as Friday in the first fifteen minutes of the game that allowed them to score quickly,” said Bennett.

Right before halftime, Salt Lake’s Sydney Hathaway chipped in another goal to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead at intermission. On the positive side, Bennett’s team came out in the second half with a strong defensive effort.

“We came out in the second half and settled into the game and shut them out,” Bennett said.

Keeper Shyann Jones was in goal for both games and recorded six total saves.

Although they lost two games to Salt Lake, Bennett believes his team can get back to competing with Salt Lake for the conference title.

“Overall we need to improve and get better, if we can get a lot better then we can compete and chellange Salt Lake,” he said.

With the losses to Salt Lake, the Eagles overall record sits at 4-3-1 and a conference record of 1-2-1.

This weekend, the team will travel to Colorado to take on Trinidad State on Thursday and Otero College on Saturday in non-conference matches.

The next home match for the Eagles will be Oct. 11 against conference opponent College of Southern Nevada.
