Spartans and Panthers Race Well in First Cross Country Meet of Season

Emery’s 2017 Cross Country Team 

The Emery Spartans and Pinnacle Panthers kicked off the 2018 cross country season last week, taking part in the Highland Invitational at Sugar House Park in Salt Lake City.

Neither schools took part in the boys’ and girls’ varsity runs. Emery boys’ JV squad took an overall eight place finish out of 40 schools. Pinnacle placed 34th.

Bryar Meccariello placed third overall in the boys’ JV race, finishing in 16:27.2. Chase Christiansen was 16th and McKay Meccariello was 28th. Landen Hardy placed the highest for Pinnacle, taking 136th (19:44.8).

Jess Christiansen took first place overall in the boys’ freshman race with a time of 16:24.9. Nya Parkins placed 26th for the Lady Spartans in the girls’ freshman race, and Carlie Bennett took 32nd in the girls’ sophomore race.

Emery will next participate in the Grass Relays at Westlake High School on Saturday. Pinnacle took part in the Wayne Invitational, with Carbon, on Thursday. Results were not in at press time.
