Kyson Stilson and Tyler Butler combined for 43 of Emery’s 76 points Wednesday night as the Emery Spartans earned a Regioin 15 victory against the North Sanpete Hawks, 76-61.
Stilson scored 11 of his game high 23 points in the first quarter. Butler nailed six threes in the game, tying his career high. Easton Gordon added three more triples in the game en route to 15 points. Gordon has averaged 16.7 points per game over his last four games, totaling 15 threes. He only connected on nine in seven previous games.
Back-to-back-to-back threes by Gordon, Stilson and Butler early in the first quarter shot the Spartans out to an early lead. They led by as many as 10 points in the quarter.
The lead ballooned to 15 at one point in the second, 31-16 on a Butler three before the Spartans took a 31-18 lead into halftime.
Butler’s sixth three of the game pushed the lead to 17 in the third quarter. The Hawks cut into the Emery lead multiple times in the fourth quarter, getting within seven, 66-59, with under two minutes to play. Clutch free throw shooting down the stretch by Brax Jensen (9-12 in the quarter) spurred the Spartans to the victory.
Emery (8-4, 2-1 Region 15) will have to straight road games, beginning Friday at Manti (10-3, 2-1 Region 15) and Wednesday at Grand (9-3, 1-2 Region 15).
